Launch of Revised I-9 Pushed to April 3, 2009
February 11, 2009
As some of you may already know, the launch of the revised Form I-9 (originally scheduled to go into effect February 2, 2009) has been delayed by 60 days. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that it has moved the effective date of the revised Form I-9 to April 3, 2009.
A very important note: Employers who use the new form prior to the April 3, 2009 effective date are subject to civil monetary penalties.
If you have not already reviewed the revised Form I-9, the most noticeable changes to the Form I-9 include:
- A new I-9 status: A noncitizen national of the United States
- Noncitizen nationals of the United States are classified by the USCIS as “…persons born in America Samoa, certain former citizens of the former Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, and certain children of noncitizens born abroad.”
- The list of acceptable documents has been updated. The biggest change within the list of acceptable documents is that expired documents will no longer be accepted. All documents must be unexpired.
A copy of the revised Form I-9 for use on or after April 3, 2009 is available at: http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/I-9_IFR_02-02-09.pdf.
NOTE: Those of you participating in the Federal E-Verify program should also be aware that an Employer will not be complaint if they accept List B documentation without a photo ID.
Intro…

The elevator just closed and you’ve got 30 seconds to pitch the random reader on who you are and why they should read your rants. Go…
Being the introvert that I am, my 30 seconds would be swallowed up getting the courage to speak to a stranger on the elevator. That should be the first hint that I am not in Sales! On the exterior I would smile and nod, but I would have a great faux conversation in my mind…
Name the actor/actress that will portray you in the movie about you. Why is that a fit?
Kyra Sedgwick – I love the character she plays on The Closer: smart and strong with a dry sense of humor. In private, she is vulnerable and a bit neurotic about sweets. Plus it would put me less than 6 degrees from Kevin Bacon!
My first car was a Nissan Altima and here’s how it defined who I am….
The first car I bought was a Nissan Altima ~ 8 years ago! It shows I was practical then and I am practical now since I am still driving it. At the time, it was a big step of independence. It still runs great and is good on gas mileage.
What is your favorite song, and how does it relate to who you are?
The only songs that seem to float through my head right now are kids’ songs. That’s probably a pretty good tip off that I’m a mom with young children! When I get a chance to pick and choose, I prefer alternative music.
If you could trade places with a celebrity for a day, who would you choose and why?
I’d like to trade places with Ty Pennington from Extreme Make-Over Home Edition. Having the opportunity to give back to a family that is always putting others needs in front of their own would be life changing. Also, I’d like to see Ty and my son go head to head. They both have a LOT of energy. J
