Tweet Job Postings As devices have gotten smaller, and our use of mobile technology has expanded, people are searching for jobs in ways that weren’t even possible a decade ago—all of which has led to a rise in mobile recruiting. But it’s possible to get people interested in your jobs in as few characters as possible, and begin utilizing Twitter as a key part of your recruitment strategy.    

Here are three tips to help you do so:    

1. Make content searchable, sharable, and memorable  

 Every day, millions of people engage with Twitter. They follow celebrities, retweet news, connect with friends, and post quips that explain the kind of day they’re having. It’s an active platform that encourages creativity and volume, and companies can loosen up a little—within brand, of course—when it’s time to recruit.  

  • Try to avoid jargon, or anything that comes across as internal-speak (like using acronyms that only someone who already works at your company would understand).  
  • Don’t try to say everything at once. At 280 characters per post, you have roughly 40 – 50 words to work with.  
  • Consider adding a unique job benefit to your tweet—something that will help it stand out. While “competitive salary” might not be unique to your job, “tuition reimbursement” could attract job seekers who want to continue their educations.  
  • Use keywords that will attract the job seekers you want. Are you hiring for your busy restaurant? Phrases like “line cook,” “sous chef,” or “bar manager” can help you attract the right candidates. Also, Google indexes Twitter posts. So job seekers can find your Twitter posts via a Google search.  

2. Use job-related hashtags  

Hashtags are essentially labels for specific pieces of content you share on social media sites. Using them is a way to help others who are interested in the same topic find your post. Using generalized hashtags such as #JobOpening, #Job, #JobSearch, etc., can be helpful when you’re posting a job opening. But they’re also just the start.  

  • Consider a hashtag for your location. It could be your state, city, or even a specific neighborhood. This will help people who are searching #restaurantjobs #Portland #PearlDistrict find you. 
  • Hashtag specifics about the job as well. For example, if you’re hiring for a senior web developer, you can hashtag must-have programming languages, such as #javascript or #python.  
  • Add a hashtag that’s unique to your company. This can be a powerful way to connect the job post back to your brand. You can also use a hashtag that’s unique to your recruiting efforts. For instance, #SmithHardwareHiring or #JonesConsultingCareers. 

3. Link to the job posting 

With Twitter, you can keep your recruiting engines running however you want, even it means posting something new about the same job three times a day for two-weeks straight. No matter how often you post, you’ll want to link back either to your careers page, or your post on job sites such as Glassdoor.com, or Indeed.com.  

  • Adding a link makes it that much quicker and easier for a candidate to apply, rather than have them fish around the Internet trying to find your job post. 
  • Because of the limited character count, you’ll probably want to shorten links. Several websites allow you to do this for free.
